Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online, but I know there are many people struggling with it. That’s why I’m writing this blog post.
I’ve been marketing online since 1999, and I’ve found that when it comes to promoting other people’s products, there is one thing that you can do to really make your link stand out.
Most affiliate marketers simply scatter their affiliate links all over the internet, on facebook, twitter, google plus, forums, articles, press releases, videos, etc.
I tried that kind of scatter gun approach myself and got limited results. I’ve also tried pay per click advertising, and whilst that was effective for some programs I promoted, I lost money on the ones that didn’t convert.
The single best way of making sure that people order through your affiliate link, rather than other affiliates is very simple, and it’s by offering a bonus to people who order through your links.
A lot of people go about this the wrong way too. They will offer totally unrelated bonuses that aren’t of interest to the target audience.
Say for example you’re promoting a weight loss product. A bad bonus would like something like “How to make money on Facebook”. People who desperately want to lose weight aren’t likely to be interested in making money with social media!
A better bonus would be something like a recipe book on low calorie smoothies, or tips on losing weight fast.
So how do you get ideas for good bonuses? There is a very simple answer. Simply search Amazon for best-selling products in that niche.
The books, videos, and other products that come to the top of the list when you sort by Popularity would make ideal bonuses.
Try it in your own niche and see what ideas you find.
Then, all you need to do is spend a little time creating your own bonus using Microsoft Word, or Open Office Writer, then save it as a PDF. Hey presto, you have your own eBook bonus!
You can even sell your bonus product on it’s own website. That way you can advertise that it has a value, even if nobody ever buys it!
In some cases you might want to bundle together several bonuses for even greater value, especially when promoting high value products.
Once you have created a bonus, you can re-use it for promoting other affiliate products in the same niche too.
In some cases, if you receive enough commission per sale, you could even buy the customer an existing product as a bonus.
Say for example, if you are paid $10 commission on a sale, the best kind of bonus would be a digital download that you can deliver for free as this will keep your costs down, and your profit high.
However, if you are getting $500 commission, you could afford to spend up to $500 to supply a bonus (or bonuses) to persuade the customer to buy through your link.
Check the guidelines for the affiliate program you are promoting, as some don’t allow you to incentivise buyers to purchase through your link. However, if it is allowed offering a bonus is certainly one of the best ways to secure a sale.
