Nutritionists recommend that we have a couple of healthy snacks a day between meals to keep us going.
Healthy snacking can help to curb our hunger and help us to have more sensible portions when it comes to the next meal, which can help us to stick to our weight loss goals more easily.
Eating snacks that are high in protein helps us to feel fuller for longer, and can help to maintain a positive nitrogen balance which is important if you aim to build lean muscle.
Here are my top recommended healthy snacks for the office:
Apple and peanut butter
Slice an apple and dip it into organic peanut butter for a healthy snack you can enjoy anywhere. As an alternative to peanut butter, you can try almond butter, or cashew butter. Try it with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon if you like the taste. This is a refreshing snack that keeps you going, and helps deliver some energy and protein when you need it.
Hummus and pitta bread
Toast the pitta (wholemeal is better for you), and then chop it into nacho sized pieces, but be careful as the pitta bread can get super hot. Dip it into the hummus (don’t buy the low fat variety though as it doesn’t taste half as good), or if you are feeling really adventurous make your own hummus from scratch. It’s full of healthy oils, protein, and the wholemeal pitta helps to give you slow burning energy.
Vi Nutra Cookies
For the ultimate in taste and convenience, pop at Vi Nutra Cookie in your bag. Each one contains about 10g protein, healthy carbs to give you a boost of energy, and a full serving of fruit and vegetables. A great way to get one of your five a day. Also a great little snack after a workout. Click here to order Nutra cookies online.
I love the convenience of being able to carry a pack of Vi Bites with me. They come in a variety of flavours, my favourites being Fruit Frenzy, Fiesta Nut, and Chocolate Monkey. They are all made with really healthy natural ingredients including dried fruit, nuts, seeds, and of course chocolate! Again, click here to order online.
