Google News introduce new “Standout” tag

If your website is lucky enough to be featured in Google News, which would mean that you are updating it several times a day with high quality unique content, you may be interested to hear about the new standout tag introduced by Google.

It all0ws you to highlight important stories, which can be within your own site, or pointing to external sites.

All you do is add rel=”standout” to the the A HREF tag, like this:

<a href="(url)" rel="standout">anchor text</a>

Google will pick up on this and realise that the link is important, which could give it higher prominence in the search results.

Do not use the tag more than seven times a week, otherwise Google will ignore the tag completely on your website.
