Stop Dumping Broken Computers in Africa!

We must stop the dumping of electronic waste (e-waste) in Africa and help the children get the education they deserve. The problem is actually far worse than this video shows. Very young children walk barefoot in these e-waste dumps searching for wires they can burn on toxic fires to extract the copper wire that they sell for pennies a day to help their families.

3D Augmented Reality for Business

Augmented Reality could be the next big thing for business online who want to virtually put their products into the hands of potential customers - especially with the current worldwide interest in 3D apps, games, television and movies.

A newly developed augmented reality technology is now available that does not require any special downloads or camera tracking technology. Instead the viewer simply prints out a special image and holds it up infront of their webcam to see the 3D model visualisation on screen.

The augmented reality web app runs on any desktop or laptop computer with Macromedia Flash installed. Although it is unlikely to work with most mobile phones at present we are expecting more mobile phone manufacturers to add Flash capabilities to mobile devices in the future that will allow these types of augmented reality apps to run.

The result of holding up the special image infront of your webcam creates a “mixed reality” whereby you can move the 3D model on screen with your hands – without the need for any special 3D input devices. It’s amazing!

Free Lead Generation Methods

Leads are the lifeblood of any business – but if you don’t have a lot of cash to spend on marketing what are the best ways of generating leads for little or no money?

Firstly you can write articles or have them ghost-written at services such as ELance.com or Freelancer.com. Submit them to as many different article directories as you can. Put your name and website address in the resource box so that people reading the article can come back to your site.

Next take your article and rework it into a Squidoo or Hubpage. You can also post the article to free blogging sites such as Blogger.com, LiveJournal and WordPress.org as well as free press release sites such as PRWeb.com.

The third and final step is to turn your article into a video. Simply use your camcorder or webcam to record yourself giving the same information as in the article and upload it to YouTube, DailyMotion, Viddler etc.

You can simply use the same content and put it in many places to generate a ton of traffic to your main site.

Make sure you do the keyword research using the free Google Keywords Tool to find the right keywords to put in the title of your pages, the headings, and throughout the body text so that your target customers find your information and visit your site.

More targeted traffic=more sales.

4 New Black Hat Internet Marketing Tips

In search engine optimisation there are two camps: white hat and black hat. Mostly I look at white hat methods because they will not get you slapped by the big search companies. Google has a reputation lately for penalising websites that have used artificial means to improve their search engine ranking. That’s why I recommend using social marketing techniques so much such as bookmarking sites (Digg, Delicious, Reddit etc) etc.

However it is still possible to pick up some very good tips from the “black hat” SEO crowd. I’ve found these four interesting tips today whilst browing the Black Hat SEO Forum:

Optimising your site in 2010 to improve results

When it comes to testing and experimentation, there’s always a risk-reward scenario. You could go with what you know and what feels right or you could try something new and see how it pans out. It could really improve conversions, but it could also go the other way.

I’m always reminded of the saying “Amateurs guess, professionals know”. This applies especially to Internet Marketing.

With digital marketing, testing is a low-cost, fast way to learn. The ability to start, stop, or change your method is easy and applying what you learn so that you can capture the greatest opportunity can also happen very quickly.

When you are marketing on the internet, the cycle of launching, measuring, and optimising can happen quickly and continuously. The more proficiently you manage this cycle the stronger your results will be. Never be afraid to try and possibly fail – whether you’re testing a new creative message, a new communications platform, a new sales promotion, or another strategy. The long term benefits of split testing can quickly and easily outweigh the short term costs.

Here are a few testing ideas to apply in 2010:

Use Google Website Optimizer to test your web site content (e.g. headline, copy, images) or design alternatives for your landing page. This tool will help you quickly identify and implement the combinations that drive most conversions.
Use YouTube as a focus group. Besides monitoring views, ratings, and comments, you can use YouTube Insight to learn what’s resonating, and where. Based on what you learn, invest in your ‘winning’ content by driving traffic via sponsored videos, altering your associated messaging in search campaigns, and ramping up geo-targeting in the areas where your video over-indexes in popularity. You may even consider testing that video as a TV spot if your budget will stretch that far.
If you’re not yet using display ads yet, make an effort in 2010 to test them out. Use the Display Ad Builder in Google Adwords to build display, rich media, and video ads quickly by incorporating your own text, images, and logo into one of the professionally designed templates. This allows you to test a creative message and learn what works best before investing in a deeper level of creative support.
