A couple of months ago if you searched for windscreen replacement Nottingham on Google the website of Screenfit Nottingham Ltd wouldn’t even appear on the search radar.

Managing Director Chris was at the end of his tether. His business was on the brink of bankruptcy and he was desperate to find a solution.

Avoiding “Information Overload”

When we are building our own business it’s essential to maintain a feeling of accomplishment which comes naturally as a result of being successful and acheiving targets.

In the drive to make more money many business owners subscribe to every marketing list and buy every home based business book, course, or software. I spend over £200 per month on professional development and spiritual development and I believe it’s worth it. However I don’t smoke. Some people spend more than that on cigarettes.

The problem is what information do you choose to focus your attention on? You are probably a busy person just like me. Every day we are bombarded with thousands of different messages – advertisements, newspaper and magazine articles, websites, radio, television, friends, colleagues, phone calls, emails, etc. etc.

The sheer amount of new information we encounter every day is mind-boggling, and for some can be overwhelming.

“Information overload” is an increasing problem that can lead to stress, time off work and complaints about never getting started with projects.

My tips for avoiding the problems associated with 21st-Century ”information overload”:

Breathe deeply and slowly
Centre yourself
Think joyful happy thoughts
Live in the now
Stop worrying about the future!
Eat little and often
Exercise regularly
Commit to learning one new thing each week
Commit to implementing one technique each week

It sounds very simple but this way you will know you are advancing. Information-overload usually happens when people are contantly learning so much they don’t have time to implement anything.

Rather than taking in lots of information and not knowing where to start, experts suggest that it is better to understand one technique and implement it completely before moving on to the next. This is especially necessary if you currently have multiple projects on the go at the same time.

Information is best digested when it is fed in one portion at a time. Equally, by “chunking down” projects into smaller more easily achieveable stages you can feel that sense of accomplishment much more often.

In search engine optimisation there are two camps: white hat and black hat. Mostly I look at white hat methods because they will not get you slapped by the big search companies. Microchip Cat Flaps Now Using Remarketing

Remarketing is a brand new service just launched by marketing giant Google Adwords.

By placing a small cookie code on the Microchip Cat Flaps website visitors are now tracked and if they don’t buy the amazing cat flap (perhaps their boss walked in just as they were about to order!) they will get served up ads for the Pet Porte Smart Flap when they visit other websites on the Internet.

I think customers will respond very well to this type of advertising. It’s really clever and will allow us to tempt customers to purchase who wouldn’t normally have done so. Perhaps they are just shopping around for a cat flap and it takes time to make the decision. We can offer money off coupons in the remarketing ads to encourage them to make the purchase from us rather than buying a cheaper less reliable cat flap elsewhere.

The idea behind remarketing is brilliant. It will add so many more advertising options to the Internet. It’s great that it is now available through the Google Content Network because of the sheer number of websites that display Google Adsense ads!

I think remarketing through Google Adwords will be great for all kinds of companies that have a lot of visitors to their websites because it allows for all kinds of targeting. For example a sports shoe retailer could serve ads to customers who have visited pages on Adidas.

Out With The Old & In With The New!

Google Friend Connect displays enhanced ads

Today Google announced a set of new features in Google Friend Connect that let website owners get to know their users, encourage users to get to know each other and personalize their site content, including Google ads. This now gives publishers (website owners) the option to show ads that match visitors’ interests.

When you log in to your Google Friend Connect account, you’ll notice a new “Interests” section where you can create a list of questions for users to answer, either as part of your website’s registration process or via a poll gadget on the site itself.

For instance, if you have a website for guitar enthusiasts, you might ask users to share their preferred brand of guitar, the last concert they attended, their favorite guitar artist, and so on. The details users share are added to their Friend Connect profiles and made publicly available, enabling users to learn more about each other.

These details also allow you to display more relevant ads that match the interests users share. From the “AdSense” section of your Friend Connect account, you can either create new ad units that take users’ interests into account or choose to enhance existing ad units on your website.
